Around 2 a.m. an inmate had started to make a hole in the sheetrock over the toilet and continued to expand it until he could fit his upper body inside. To the inmate's disappointment, the sheetrock only served to conceal overhead electrical and plumbing and did not provide access to an escape route. Officers identified the inmate responsible for the damage and he was subsequently charged with criminal damage to government property, which is a felony.

The Douglas County Jail staff met with representatives from CorrecTek last week to discuss implementation of their electronic medical records software. CorrecTek's EMR software was designed to meet the needs of a correctional facility instead of simply altering a software package that was originally designed for use in a doctor's office. The EMR package will benefit the jail and the inmates by allowing us to work more efficiently and effectively. Once installed, the software package will manage all medical records, give real time updates to the medical staff of any new orders or changes, and provide instant results from the lab and pharmacy. The CorrecTek staff spent two days with us last week to get a better understanding of our facility and our expectations; what they learned will help them in customizing their software to meet our needs.
