The Training Division staff is committed to providing the finest basic, in-service, advanced, and specialized "Law Enforcement Training" to all employees of the Sheriff's Office and to numerous other city, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Our proactive approach to training through hands-on, force-on-force, and simulation training better prepares the law enforcement officers with the knowledge and skills to provide protection and service to their communities, while affording dignity and respect to every individual.
With five (4) full-time training staff members on hand and an additional twenty three (20) P.O.S.T. certified general instructors (several with multiple instructor certifications) throughout the Sheriff's Office, we strive to ensure that all personnel are ethically, legally, and technically proficient, and will encourage them to be a positive influence in their profession and in their communities.

Civilian Self Defense Classes
Self-defense classes are being offered to Douglas County Residents by The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Training Division's Defensive Tactics Instructor Sgt. Elmer Horn
Classes will be held in the Douglas County Jail Administrative Building at:
Classes will be held from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. You will be notified of your class date approximately 2 weeks in advance.
The class includes instruction and discussion covering mindset and scenarios that are commonly used to defend ones self against a violent attack.
The first part of the class covers awareness and vulnerable situations, this is conducted in a classroom setting using overhead projectors and power points media tools.
The next section of the class is covered in the gymnasium area where the students will practice basic movements of self defense.
These defense movements are as follows:
Activity level is at a Low to Moderate Pace with minimal exertion. Students must be at least 18 years of age and will be required to sign a Waiver of Liability.
